For the 17th edition of the Lonely Planet Vietnam guidebook, we headed back to the Mekong Delta and the Southeast Coast—two regions we’ve explored more times than we can count, yet somehow always manage to surprise us.

Our work on this edition focused on delivering fresh, reliable, on-the-ground travel advice that genuinely helps people explore Vietnam better. That meant highlighting lesser-known destinations, revisiting popular spots with updated tips, and sharing the kind of insights that only come from spending years traveling through the same regions.

We spent weeks on the road, moving between riverside towns, small villages, and coastal hideaways. From early-morning markets in the Delta to quiet coves along the coast, this project gave us the chance to revisit the places we know so well and pass along our favorite spots to readers.

The guidebook blends practical tips, cultural insight, and the kind of travel writing that helps readers see Vietnam with fresh eyes. It’s filled with our favorite stays, meals we still think about and the kind of experiences we wish we’d had on our very first trip through the country.

After so many years of discovering Vietnam, we’re excited to finally share the places we love most with a global audience.
